Juana

Juana is an 18-year-old girl from a small village in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Her parents faced economic hardships that forced the family to relocate to another village in Escuintla department. Juana, the eldest of seven siblings, faced a two-hour journey on foot to pursue her education. Determined to complete her elementary and middle school education, she faced ever-present dangers during her commute. Her parents, recognizing the transformative potential of education, sought a safer solution so Juana could continue with high school and technical education. They learned about Centro Escolar Nuestra Señora de Concepción, one of A Chance In Life’s partner organizations in Guatemala. This educational center became the beacon of hope for this family, ensuring Juana’s safety and access to education.

Thanks to A Chance In Life’s financial support, Centro Escolar Nuestra Señora de Concepción offered Juana residency, nutrition, and tuition-free high-quality education.

In November 2023, Juana graduated in Sciences and Letters with a computer focus. Her parents and grandmother joined her for her graduation. She is the first one in the family to achieve this level of education. Juana successfully completed her technical education, and she is actively seeking a full-time job which will allow her to cover the cost of university studies, which she hopes to begin soon.
