Emawayesh

Emawayesh faced enormous challenges to pursue her college education. Residing with her parents in an economically disadvantaged neighborhood in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 21 year-old Emawayesh took on various jobs to contribute to her family’s income and generate enough funds for her education, transportation and daily sustenance. Unfortunately, these demands took a toll on her well-being, resulting in frequent absences from college and negatively interfering with her academic performance.

Over the past year and a half, Emawayesh’s life has undergone a profound transformation due to the support of the Friendship for Integrated Development Association (FIDA) sponsorship program, made possible by A Chance In Life. This initiative has not only sponsored her college tuition fees but has also paved the way for her to pursue a diploma in Marketing Management. Emawayesh now envisions a future where she becomes a successful graduate and a source of inspiration for others facing similar challenges. During a recent visit to the FIDA office, she expressed her aspirations, stating, “I have a dream one day to be one of the successful graduates and a role model for others.”

Emawayesh is determined to share her life experiences and inspire others to envision a brighter future for themselves. “I believe that education [opens the] door to a bright future,” Emawayesh explained. Her story captures the transformative power of education and empowerment to uplift and inspire young people to pursue their dreams and break the cycle of poverty.
