Urgent: Keep Ethiopian Girls in School
St. Anthony Secondary School in Ethiopia is at risk of closing,
leaving over 300 students without access to education.
With $40,000, St. Anthony School can stay open for its current students and prepare its classrooms and facilities for the new students who will start school next month. Help us reach our goal and keep this beacon of hope open.

An essential right at risk…
In the heart of Ethiopia, nestled in the Eparchy of Emdibir, lies St. Anthony Catholic Secondary School—a vital resource for 310 students, most of whom are girls facing significant challenges. For these young girls, many of whom live in one of our partner Program’s group homes nearby, education is not just about learning; it is a critical lifeline offering a chance to forge their own path forward and escape early marriage, domestic labor, and poverty.
Due to recent government mandates, to comply with new national education standards and remain open, St. Anthony Catholic Secondary School must expand its curriculum and program to admit more students. This expansion places a significant financial burden on schools like St. Anthony, who are already struggling to make ends meet with dedicated but overworked staff, limited supplies, and small classrooms. When I visited St. Anthony School, I saw for myself how passionate the teachers were about their students, and how eager the students were to learn. I also saw the crumbling walls, the dusty computers, and the bathrooms in desperate need of renovation.

It is clear – with these new government regulations, St. Anthony must expand its curriculum to stay open, but they need our help to alleviate the heavy financial burden and continue providing essential education and a safe environment to young girls in rural Ethiopia.
