Breaking Barriers: Bridging the Digital Divide for Girls in Bolivia

February 11 marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day dedicated to promoting full and equal access to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for women and girls worldwide. Our international partners not only offer access to quality education to girls but also provide with unique opportunities so they can bridge the Digital Divide. One of them is Centro Hermano Manolo, a youth center located in Cochabamba, Bolivia that offers digital inclusion and and is transforming the lives of youth through education.

For many girls and young women in vulnerable communities in Bolivia and across the world, access to technology remains a challenge. Centro Hermano Manolo, is committed to bridging the digital divide by providing computers with internet access and technology courses to youth who lack these resources at home.

One inspiring example is Viviana, a youth who attends Centro Hermano Manolo, who has a deep interest in technology. She completed a computer course that covered the entire Office suite, sparking her curiosity and passion for digital skills. Encouraged by this experience, she decided to pursue a degree in Systems Engineering after graduating from high school in November 2024.

This January 2025, she successfully secured a place to start her university studies and is now eagerly preparing for her college journey, with dreams of becoming a successful professional in the tech field.

By partnering with local organizations that provide access to education and career pathways, A Chance In Life ensures that young people—especially girls—have the tools they need to break barriers and thrive.

Today, as we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we recognize the incredible potential of young women like Viviana. Their dreams and determination remind us why access to technology, education, and mentorship is essential for creating a more equitable world.

Let’s continue working together to ensure that every girl, no matter where she is, has the opportunity to explore, learn, and lead in science and technology.

Support our work and enable more youth to realize their dreams.
